🆕 Biogas Safety First and Safe Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant Operation

Renewable energy sources are much needed, but the presence of explosive gases and potentially also pathogens, and hazardous trace gases, means that observing biogas "Safety First" must rank above simply producing valuable energy.

This is a vital subject as biogas plants are increasing in numbers, more people are setting up new plants using bioresources, and the potential for harm to operatives is rising.

4 people died in the UK due to a biogas related explosion in the UK, in December 2020.

While operating these plants, all those responsible must make themselves aware of all the hazards pertaining to biogas plants.

Safe systems of working are set-up for all activities deemed to possess a safety risk.

At first, all existing staff and operatives must be trained in safe working practices. Subsequently, all new staff must be inducted into using the business's "Safety First" methods, which must be consistently adopted and implemented.

The Must Have Biogas Tractor For All Seriously Sustainable Farms

A biogas tractor should be high on the list for all seriously sustainable farms where they also have their own biogas plant. It seems so obvious, to use homegrown renewable fuel to power that farm's tractors. But until recently was simply not done.

However, since 2012 some tractor manufacturers have been selling tractors for compressed renewable natural gas as fuel. This is good for the environmental sustainability of the farm.

It's the most efficient use of biogas, on the farm to provide the fuel to power the farm vehicles which frequently devour the most fuel on the farm. It was only in the summer of 2012, at the AD and Biogas (Now Bioenergy) Exhibition that the first biogas/ renewable methane fuelled tractor in production was placed on public view.
